We've all bought 'em - either at the Army Surplus store, from eBay, or at the secondhand camera markets...old canvas army bags, I mean. We all thought they were cool back in the day and we all packed our SLR cameras around in them. Along with cheese sandwiches and bus schedules. The cameras we carried are long since traded off or put on the shelf but the cheese sandwiches are still as fresh as ever...
This is no army surplus canvas bag. This is a Gitzo Century Compact
Messenger bag. It is the perfect size for smaller cameras and lighter travel - note the insert that Gitzo packs into it - a " serving suggestion " if ever there was one.
It'll take more humble cameras as well, and cosset them in similar padded luxury.
And it is replete with some rather neat features:
a. A small flap and pouch - readily accessible from the outside - that is designed for your lens cap.
b. Very soft tablet compartment with zip. Back handling strap. Rip-stop nylon.
c. Reporter access window on the top flap.
d. Spring-loaded easy-catch top flap attachment - adjustable for bulky contents.
e. And of course there is a padded shoulder strap, leather undersurface, and feet on the bottom to keep it out of puddles. Plenty of accessory stowage on the front face. And no old sandpaper Army canvas taking the paint or chrome off your cameras or lenses. You might still brass up your Leica but you'll have to do it legitimately with hard work and a lot of picture-taking.
