Photo Live is coming again this Sunday. The Camera Electronic team will be working all weekend - on the pre-show fashion shoot on Saturday night at the Novotel Langley, and then all day in the display and lecture halls at the same venue. You've been seeing advertisements in your email and Facebook feed for weeks about this and if you've not gone to one, this is a good year to start.
The Expos have been very popular with Perth's photographers every time they have been held, as they are a combination of the trade show, bargain market, and photographic conference - all in one day. It's not just us at the Langley - there are stalls from all the major wholesalers and a number of Perth's dedicated photo businesses and photography societies. And there is a lineup of topnotch photo personalities to talk about their specialities in the lectures and shows.
But a warning: the entry is a gold coin donation to Telethon and you can cheap it out for the whole day if you want to...however it is also a good day for discounts and bargains for a lot of the goods that are on show. It really is wise to stuff the wallet a little and be prepared to spend it on the day. Remember that you may see something that you did not know was on the market - and find you want it desperately. Perth being what Perth is, you will be wise to leap on the object of your affections and bear it away laughing like a maniac. Too often you will have said to yourself that you must get something one day, and by the time that day rolls around, the goods have been sold and will never be seen again.
Hammer the piggy bank open and be prepared to buy.
Note: The Novotel Langley has excellent catering facilities downstairs at Fenians so you will not parch or starve. Dive in for a lecture, go have a pint, come up to the trading floor and gawk. It makes for a good photographic Sunday. If you don't want to take the car to the place, it is served by a good bus from the Busport with stops right out front going both ways. Remember that seniors with cards travel free on Sundays.
Where will I be? On the Analog Line book and film stand like Davy Crockett...building an analog cabin... Then downstairs at Fenians, after it is all over.
