Fujifilm X-T50

on December 04, 2024
With a detour past me - a Fujifilm user.
In July I determined to get myself another Fujifilm body. I had confidence in the brand  - enough so that I already own  five other bodies and lenses to equip them.
I’d found that ≈ 24 megapixels was an ideal resolution for the work I did - whether it was dance videos or studio tabletop illustration. My X-T2 was in a dedicated video rig, so I wanted another body to sit in front of the product box.

Just about this time., Fujifilm promised the delivery of a new lightweight X-T series camera. I waited to see what it would look like, and it when it came, it looked great.
It ticked nearly all the boxes for me - used the same battery that was shared amongst the rest of the studio fleet, had the same LCD articulation as the X-T2 and X-T10, and contained a new sensor and processor.
the fact that the sensor was about 40 megapixels was possibly a bonus, though not necessary. The promised improvements in AF and other camera niceties was cheering. I only stumbled when I realised the price was nearly double that of the previous body…

Then a ray of sun - the previous body was still in stock at a lower price. While It was still offered, I took it up - and have been using it to picture the X-T50 today. I can happily say that I did not make a bad choice.
Mind you, had it not been going, the X- T50 would be a magnificent machine. The AF is very fast and accurate, the frame rate high, and the convenience of the film simulations unmatched. you access them straight from the top of the body. There is increased video performance and access to a number of especial video codes and settings. Even the hand grip is better proportioned.
The joy of the X-T XX series has been that they encapsulate the performance of the X-T X bodies in a smaller and lighter parcel and provide a useful pop-up flash over the lens. I’ve used just this feature on may scale model exhibitions to achieve clear illustration close to the camera.

Also a joy about it is the fact that is actually in the shops and you can walk away with it - unlike some other recent cameras that exist in sample and promise.
