Best At Batt

on January 15, 2024

I expect howls of protest from industry reps and amateur electronics experts alike with this Best. But I am now on home ground and I can write from experience.

I have been buying brand-name batteries for years. Ever-ready, Mallory, Varta, Maxell, Exide…etc, etc. Also Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, and other camera makers’ products. And I have always accepted the advice that these were better than odd bargain brands picked up off the barrows at the local electronics fair.

Good, solid, conservative thinking as befits a man who can wear a waistcoat with dignity…

However, the scarcities of the plague years turned this on its head. I still needed batteries, but the brand-name ones were not on the shelves.

Note that the logistics were managed carefully by only using equipment that needed one sort of battery. I had passed through years of scattered purchases that all needed different power - and that meant a variety of batteries followed by a variety of charger. The only commonality was the wall plug and the power cord. There were times when I planned a trip or job based upon the batteries.

But eventually I sold away the Fujifilm cameras that took rogue batteries and settled upon the W 126 series. These went through several iterations, but were mostly interchangeable. I could collect 6 - 8 batteries and shuffle them between cameras. Then they started to age…

Swelling, getting stuck, losing their charge quickly…all the predictable things. I needed new gear when new gear wasn’t coming in.

Answer? Jupio. I accepted the advice of a staff member to try a Jupio aftermarket battery ( with the cynical attitude that it would be a failure ) and watched in amazement as it out-performed the manufacturer’s goods. Three Jupio batteries later i have found them to be to be my preferred option for power when a critical job comes up.

They charge readily, do not strain the blocks, and keep that charge unused longer than the other batteries. I seem to get a longer run in the video mode. They have not swollen yet ( though they will…).

I can cheerfully recommend the brand as best to all.
